The Ideal Student Life An Essay Introduction
The meaning of a student (विद्यार्थी – vidyarthi) is one who obtains knowledge (विद्या – vidya). That is, one who seeks knowledge (विद्या का अर्थी – vidya ka arthi) is called a ‘student’. Generally, in today’s times, those who enroll in schools and colleges to acquire knowledge are called students, and this period of their life is called student life.
The Ideal of Student Life
To acquire knowledge or wisdom is the ideal or primary goal of student life. To ग्रहण (grahan – accept/receive) character education is also considered its ideal. Therefore, one who is disciplined (विनयी – vinayi), hardworking (परिश्रमी – parishrami), truthful (सत्यवादी – satyavadi), and obedient (आज्ञाकारी – aagyakari); who goes to school on time, studies diligently (मन लगाकर – man lagakar), and in the remaining time at home, is devotedly engaged in study (अध्ययन – adhyayan) and contemplation (मनन – manan) – such a learner is an ideal student, and this is the ideal of student life.
Special Qualities of Student Life
Student life is the period of studying. Student life has many qualities. The foremost special quality of an ideal student is ‘curiosity’ (जिज्ञासा – jigyasa). They desire to constantly acquire new information about new subjects. They have a feeling of reverence (श्रद्धा-भाव – shraddha-bhav) towards gaining knowledge. At the same time, they are not swayed by worldly pleasures and comforts. They stay away from laziness and experience the joy of austerity by living a hard life.
They are tempered into gold in the fire of hard work (परिश्रम – parishram), dedication (लगन – lagan), and penance (तप – tap). Regarding the qualities within them, it is said that an ideal student’s effort should be like a crow’s (कौए की तरह – kauae ki tarah), their focus like a heron’s (बगुले की तरह – bagule ki tarah), and their sleep like a dog’s (कुत्ते की तरह – kutte ki tarah). Along with this, they should also be self-controlled (संयमी – sanyami), industrious (श्रमी – shrami), eat sparingly (अल्पाहारी – alpahari), and be detached from household attachments (गृहत्यागी – grihatyagi). Along with these qualities, they should also follow the principle of ‘simple living, high thinking’ (सादा जीवन उच्च विचार – sada jeevan uchch vichar).
Objectives of Student Life
The basic objective of student life is not only to acquire knowledge and make one’s future life successful but also to develop one’s personality. It is also necessary for an ideal student to have the objective of staying healthy, because without a healthy mind and intellect, studying attentively is not possible. Along with this, it is also to assist in the progress of the country, society, and family by emulating the qualities of an ideal citizen.
Expectations of Society and Nation from Students
An individual lives for themselves, but in this living, they do not attain the meaning of life. That living is meaningful and successful through which society and the nation progress. On this basis, society and the nation have greater expectations from students. Students are the future leaders (कर्णधार – karnadhar) of society and the nation. With their good character (सुचरित्र – sucharitra), hard work, and sacrifice (त्याग – tyag), they make society and the nation progressive (उन्नतशील – unnatshil).

An ideal student understands their duty towards the country and society well. Based on their ideal qualities, they are helpful in the progress of themselves, their family, society, and the nation. Influenced by the qualities and good deeds (सुकर्मों – sukarmo) of such ideal students, the country, society, and family feel proud of them.
