Introduction to the essay on water conservation
Water is of utmost importance among the five elements of the universe and it is the basic foundation of life. It is because of water that the life of trees, plants, gardens etc. as well as animals is safe on this earth. It is said that water is the basic element of life safety – ‘If there is water, there is life’ or ‘water is nectar’. The problem of water shortage on earth is gradually increasing. Therefore, understanding the importance of water conservation on earth, the United Nations announced to celebrate World Water Day in the year 1992, which is celebrated every year on March 22.
Water consciousness is our responsibility
In our ancient culture, the rain god Indra and the water god Varuna were worshipped to ensure timely rainfall. Similarly, rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati etc. and water pilgrimage sites and lakes were praised. As a result, there was never a water crisis on earth. In ancient times, a lot of money was spent on building wells, ponds, stepwells etc. for drinking water, but in the present times, due to the selfish nature of man, materialistic thinking and atheistic attitude, the available water is being exploited in such a way that drinking water crisis has arisen in many areas. Therefore, it is our responsibility to conserve water by considering it a life saving element.
Adverse effects of water crisis
In our country, water crisis is increasing day by day due to reasons like industrialization, urbanization, large scale exploitation of mineral wealth, excessive exploitation of groundwater etc. Due to this, neither water is available for irrigation of crops nor there is adequate supply of drinking water. Due to water crisis, ponds, lakes and wells are drying up and groundwater level is also continuously decreasing. Due to lack of water, many wild animals are becoming extinct, farm yield is decreasing and forests are drying up. Thus, many adverse effects of water crisis are being seen.
Water conservation measures
This problem can be solved by solving the reasons that increase water crisis. For this, exploitation of underground water should be stopped, rain water should be collected and buried inside the ground, dams or anicuts should be built on rain drains, ponds, pools and wells should be deepened and widened and efforts should be made to connect big rivers. People should be made aware of water conservation. Such measures can solve the water crisis.
Conclusion of the essay on water conservation
Considering water as the basis of life, efforts should be made to bring new awareness in the society. Public awareness activities like ‘Amrit Jalam’ should be organized. Creating awareness about water will spread the feeling of water harvesting and water conservation and life on earth will be safe.
